The campaign's two-year objective is to bring Tiya’s focus off of a daily search for food and water, and help them build a sustainable environment that will strengthen their health, family, community, economy, and faith.
We have built relationships with 9 villages in the Turkana region and they have all began with food. Our goal is to supply each village with enough food to sustain them while we partner with them to dig wells, build greenhouses, help their livestock, train and support a pastor, and build a church until they can be a self-sustained community. This process usually takes around two years.
Once their health has been restored through food, water, shelter and life projects and programs, the villagers then have time to make brooms and baskets, collect charcoal, raise livestock, and cultivate their vocations to earn income to be self sustained.
So, will you partner with us to bring love of God to Tiya?
It all starts with food.
SERV International first started distributing food in Lodwar, Kenya years ago. The nomadic people in the area in and around Lodwar are of the Turkana ethnic group. Turkana people are pastoralists who live off the land, moving every year or so with their livestock in search of food and water. The deserts of northwest Kenya where they live suffer extended periods of drought and famine that exacerbate existing food insecurity. As a result, the Turkana people consistently experience food poverty - at a staggering rate of 81%.
At SERV, we give people the opportunity to make a difference.
We build connections with communities in Kenya and many other countries by serving nutrient-rich meals to millions of people.
We grow relationships with these communities and engage holistically by meeting urgent needs for resources like clean water and safe shelter, so we may share the love of God.
Then we keep coming back.
